What is the HÜB?

It is time to devirtualize the social web in live settings, The HÜB@NORTHSIDE is changing the context of these interactions at live conferences. The HÜB inspires you to "Look Up", moving the dialogue from your mobile device and computer, back to human face to face conversations. The HÜB's focal point is a modern inflatable building that is wrapped with projections of real-time "Big Data" visualizations of social connections and trends that are married to location, time, environmental and contextual data feeds throughout the festival. Programming inside will be unique to the HÜB and will feature never before seen interactive engagements that foster real world interactions.

The HÜB has partnered with award-winning social discovery app Sonar to power a real-life, real-time social network among conference attendees. Sonar is the best way to connect and share with people nearby, and they share the HÜB's vision for inspiring people to "Look Up" from mobile devices and connect face-to-face.

The HÜB@NORTHSIDE provides a central meeting place and is the town square of the entire NORTHSIDE Festival. The HÜB is a gathering place, lounge, showcase, soapbox and artistic canvas for programming that allows participants to make live connections around topics and common interests areas. The HÜB will also showcase 12 up-and-coming, innovative businesses. The HÜB is a connector of the entire festival as well as being an awe inspiring modern sculpture that reflects what is next in Brooklyn, the greater Northeast and globally.

Why the HÜB?

We are entering the visual age, big data visualizations are the next chapter in the information age.

According to IDC, unstructured data, much of it generated by machines, accounts for more than 90% of the data in today's organizations. Traditional technologies, built on relational or multi-dimensional databases, cannot handle the complexity or scale of today's massive volumes of machine data.

Nor do they allow the flexibility to ask any question or get questions answered in real time--which now is an expectation of users. Demand for effective big data visualization is exploding. As a result, companies, organizations and governments are seeking to gain valuable insights through engaging big data visual analytics that can be understood and communicated to all.

The HÜB will debut at the Northside Festival, NYC's largest and most accessible discovery festival. Hundreds of bands, entrepreneurs, filmmakers, innovators, and over 80,000 fans converge on Brooklyn over eight days to witness the most incredible showcase of "what's next" in music, film, entrepreneurship, and art.

Blending Brooklyn’s roots with the nation’s future, we’ve transformed a 40,000 sq. ft. factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, into a conference center, filled with over 40 panels about innovation, design, software development, music, and films. We’re featuring a mixture of established business leaders, with the next generation of innovators. Our 20,000 sq. ft. trade show floor will showcase the latest technology from NYC’s hottest start-ups and feature the inaugural Social Cinema Exhibition.

At the Northside Entrepreneurship Festival, New York City’s community of innovative entrepreneurs, national media, highly regarded angel investors and venture capitalists will come together to shape “what’s next” in innovation and entrepreneurship.
